Fits V Series dovetail bars. V Series dovetail clamp allows you to attach accessories to a V series dovetail bar. Incorporates a split clamp design that grips the dovetail bar along the entire surface of the saddle and will not dent or scratch the dovetail bar. The dovetail clamp has a large “T” handle locking knob for tool free operation, spring loaded jaws, anodized aluminum and stainless steel construction. 1.75″ Long, 2.5″ Wide, .75″ Thick, Wt. 3 oz.

I use the VPA dovetail adapter as a stop block on (the objective end of) each ADM dovetail bar on each scope. Once the position of the scope relative to the saddle is determined to achieve balance, the stop block is installed to the dovetail bar (contacting the saddle) with a socket head capscrew replacing the finger knob style fastener ADM supplies. The socket head screw allows tightening securely via an Allen wrench. Once the stop block is installed to the rail the scope returns to balance when mounting by locking the stop bloc against the saddle and tightening the saddle knobs. (all my mounts have the same length ADM saddles). The stop block also helps support a heavy OTA when mounting as I orient the OTA vertically and the stop block carries the weight of the OTA while I tighten the saddle knobs. Perhaps not exactly the use Anthony intended – but these work very well to help prevent accidents when mounting OTAs and as I said – return the scope to the pre-set balance point.

I used these dovetail adapters to attach my guide scope (rings) to a vixen-style bar on top of my telescope. I was able to do this in minutes and the guide scope is now held firmly in place.

this would be a 5 star review but both of the V type clamps bound before clamping on the rail, this is particularly dangerous since, after tightening hard, the clamp slides on the rail and there is still clearance between the saddle and the rail. This is the primary function of the saddle. I even tried grease and smoothing out the aluminum holes. To be safe, you need to clamp the saddle by hand before tightening the screw.
Sorry for the bad review but this precision equipment should have been checked before sending out a design like this… especially at this price. I would chalk it up to cheap Chinese quality but this was made in the US.
Tighten up your tolerances and make the pins longer !!!! or put a bushing in the hole.

From Anthony – Rick, I am sorry you are having issues with the VPA’s that you purchased. You should not have to clamp the saddle by hand so it is obvious to me that something is binding. I suspect that you are opening the clamp more than you need to. I suspect this because there should be no reason to make the pins longer. The clamp only needs to open enough for you to either slide the clamp on or off, or TILT it on or off as shown in the image. By TILTING the clamp on and off there is at least an extra .125” of space between the clamp and dovetail bar. I stand by my made in the USA products and will gladly exchange the clamps you have for some perfectly functional clamps.
